Light

Science Class 8 : Chapter 16

Now Playing: Ambient Study

Quick Revision : Light

  • What makes things visible: Light enters our eyes from objects either emitted or reflected by them.
  • Laws of Reflection: 1) Angle of incidence = Angle of reflection. 2) Incident ray, reflected ray, and normal all lie in same plane.
  • Regular Reflection: From smooth surfaces (mirrors) - parallel rays remain parallel after reflection.
  • Diffused/Irregular Reflection: From rough surfaces - rays scatter in different directions.
  • Image Formation: Plane mirrors form virtual, erect, same-size images with lateral inversion.
  • Multiple Images: Two mirrors at angles produce multiple images (kaleidoscope principle).
  • Dispersion: Splitting of white light into seven colors (VIBGYOR).
  • Human Eye: Cornea, iris, pupil, lens, retina, optic nerve. Rods for dim light, cones for color.
  • Blind Spot: Point on retina with no sensory cells where optic nerve exits.
  • Braille System: Reading and writing system for visually challenged using raised dot patterns.
